OTP SMS: send verification codes from your own number

A one-time password proves that a user controls a phone number. Generate at least six random digits on your server, keep them valid for a few minutes only, allow a limited number of attempts, and rate-limit how often a code can be requested for the same number. SMS Gora delivers the message; your application stays in charge of creating and checking the code.

Make codes arrive quickly

Keep the phone on charge and on Wi-Fi or mobile data, turn off battery optimisation for the app, and link a second phone as a backup. Use the sms.delivered and sms.failed webhooks to show a resend button only when it’s needed.

Write a clear OTP message

Start with your brand name, show the code early, and state the expiry — for example “Tekshop code: 482913. Expires in 10 min.” Short messages stay in one SMS part and are delivered faster.

How fast do OTP codes arrive?

Usually within seconds: an online phone picks up new messages within about 15 seconds when idle and much faster while busy. Instant push, when enabled, makes it react immediately.

Can I use SMS Gora for two-factor authentication?

Yes. Your app generates the code and sends it with one API call; SMS Gora delivers it and reports delivery.

What if the phone is offline?

The code waits in the queue and goes out when the phone reconnects. For login codes, link a backup phone so another online phone can send it.

Is OTP SMS through a personal SIM reliable?

For local numbers it’s usually very reliable, because the text travels like any person-to-person SMS. For many countries at high volume, consider a carrier provider as well.

How much does each OTP cost?

SMS Gora plans include unlimited SMS. Your operator bills each text to the SIM, often inside a cheap SMS bundle.
